Deimer’s dilemma -
to chew or not to chew.
Unwrapped and ground
trapped between molars,
pinched between the cheek and gum-
ming up the dental work!
Sucking extreme sweetness
until jaw gets fatigued.
Bazooka Joe never gave
these bubbles a blow.
He brought his own!

I absolutely LOVE how many appearances Bazooka Joe has made with this prompt. :) Brings back memories. "to chew or not to chew" is wonderful! ;)
ReplyDeleteI hate it when it stuck between my molars ~ Never did learn to blow properly ~ Thanks for joining us ~
ReplyDeleteI used to have a drawer full of his comics!
ReplyDeleteHa.. I was never good at blowing bubbles.. but I do remember how my jaws could hurt after too much chewing gum.. :-)
ReplyDeleteSo good.
ReplyDelete"Sucking extreme sweetness" ... smiles :)
A cultural gap for me here. So I have looked up Bazooka Joe, but I guess you had to be there (or have been brought up on the comic). As far as I can discover, Deimer is a brand of wine. Never mind, those in the know are enjoying this piece, so you must have hit the spot.
ReplyDeleteWalter Deimer was an accountant at the Fleer Company who took the Fleer formula for bubble gum and perfected it. Fleer's original was hard and brittle. Fleer made the Double Bubble gum. Bazooka gum was similar, but was wrapper in the Bazooka Joe comic.
ReplyDeleteYou brought back memories for me of penny candy and of course Bazooka gum. It definitely was a hard chew at first!
